Cool(er) Weather, Georgia Football and a 5000 mL Flask?

It’s a bit refreshing to once again be able to walk outside and not instantly be overcome by heat and humidity.  With the hot summer nights coming to an end, the cooler weather brings all of our fall favorites, good home crafted beer, Georgia Football and cookouts! Who could ask for more?

Well to the start the season off right, we decided to go big! After a trip to our local brew store, BrewMasters Warehouse,  We decided to brew an American Style Barley Wine.  With more than 40lbs. of grain this is going to be a monster beer! And, as we all know, monster beers need monster starters so we decided to invest in our very first 5000 mL flask! It worked great for the starter and we are looking forward to brewing tomorrow. If you’re around stop by and say hi!

Its going to be a great year!

No Brewing Tonight

I know, and as sad as that news is to all of our loyal followers, I will leave you with some happy news: BACON FEST

Whats better than bacon? Not much. Whats better than Beer and Bacon…NOTHING. So if you’re looking for something to do this weekend head on out to Bacon Fest at Dads Garage in Virgina Highland.

A mere $35 gets you unlimited bacon and beer, from jalapeno-infused pig crisps from P’cheen to bacon & maple donuts, plus attractions like “Hunt an Improviser” (throwing water balloons at the performers), a “Redneck Wine Tasting”, funny impressions, and “Children of the Corn-Holing”. For tuneage, DJ Baron Saturday will spin between sets from The Fingering Brothers, the Stumbling Troubadours, and Bases Loaded, because RBI Baseball was borrowed and never returned by Jimmy Weeks, who moved to a different district.

Saturday at Dad’s Garage: 280 Elizabeth St, Ste C-101; Virginia Highland; 404.523.3141

Swimmingly Perfect

Despite the torrential downpour today, we brewed up our Oatmeal Stout. Thanks again to Neal and the gang plus TAYLOR and Ed for weathering the storm and showing up to brew night sans beer. I’d also like to point out that David showed up and expressed interest in brewing, we made him clean a lot… but you’ve got to start somewhere. After we took our original gravity, we thought we were going to wind up with a pretty big beer (aka… it’ll get you drunk), but we only missed our OG by 2 points. For those who couldn’t make it, I snapped a few photos with my iPhone. See below…  I’d also like to mention that we are on track for having 10 gallons of Wit ready for next Wednesday! Check back often for updates on our progress on brewing and starting a craft brewery in Kennesaw. We wouldn’t be where we are now without all of our fans support!

We also fixed the kegerator! Happy brewing everyone!

Wednesday Night Brewing Success! (sans beer)

Brew Night 09-09-09

The weather held out and we were able to brew up our new and improved IPA. Our new recipe has over 30 pounds of grain and close to a pound of hops. This one should be a drastic difference from our old recipe. Even with a massive grain bill stacked against us, we were able to do the impossible and not boil over despite having 14.84 gallons of wort in the kettle… and we have proof.

Wort

Thanks to Neal and his gang for coming out in support and bringing his refractometer to test out. I have to say though, you can’t go wrong with the trusty hydrometer… I would also like to thank Tyler for stepping up to the plate and purchasing a case of finely crafted ales for us to try from Total Wine.

Playing Catch Up…

Once again our busy schedules have gotten the best of us. I apologize for such a late follow up from last Wednesday, we had some friends in town for the last hoorah of the season. Thanks for all of the support though, we hope you all enjoyed our Wit and Terry’s nut brown.

I promise the next posts will have pictures, I keep getting distracted at the house and have to resort to posting from my iPhone…

We will be brewing this Wednesday! We are going to try a new IPA recipe. As the title of this post says, we are playing catch up right now and have no beer for you to drink. Don’t let that stop you from coming out though. We love the support and would love to talk about various craft beers as we brew. So if you can make it, be sure to bring your favorite craft beer. Please, no cheap domestic lagers. Save that for Saturday football. We will have more brew by next Wednesday and an octoberfest that’ll be ready Mid October.

Also, our friend Neal mentioned he might bring over his refracometer. Should be a neat instrument to try out. See ya’ll Wednesday!
